The passings of Precious the raccoon and Jennifer the goat
The winter may not have been cold here in Florida, but it was trying on our staff, supporters and volunteers. Within the same week, two of our beloved and long-time residents, passed away. Jennifer the goat was 13 1/2 years old when her body said it was time to rest. Jennifer was rescued back in 2006 after being attacked by a stray dog. She was nursed back to health and given permanent residency. She was known and loved by many folks over the years and will be missed dearly.
Precious the raccoon was brought in to BTN in 2011 at just 3 weeks old. She was a victim of an owl attack. Precious was found lethargic in the pasture of a local petting farm. She suffered injuries to shoulders and back. She recovered well but was never able to fully climb again. She was deemed unsuitable for the wild and became an educational ambassador. Precious passed from complications while under anesthesia after being diagnosed with kidney stones and mass in her abdomen. It was a shock to us all. We are heartbroken.
We are saddened each time we lose a member of our critter family. They take a piece of our hearts with them. Rest in peace.
